With the spam and virus
filter, Innter.Net©
offers you a reliable and effective solution for a
considerable reduction of unwanted advertising
e-mails (so-called "spam") and at the same time high
protection from virus-infected e-mail messages.
Additionally there's an e-mail "phishing" fraud
protection.

Advantages:
E-mails are handled before being delivered to the
mail-server, and are possibly not delivered to your
e-mail mailbox from the start. The e-mail "phishing"
fraud protection gives additional protection from
e-mails with fake URLs.
This way you don't only save the time it would take
to manually sift through the unwanted e-mails, but
you also save transfer volume and download time and
thus ultimately your precious time and online
transfer costs with your Internet access provider. |

Spamfilter:
Every incoming e-mail is processed by the Innter.Net©
mailscanner and checked for typical spam traits. In
doing so, multiple databases for spam protection are
queried in real-time and compared to the incoming
e-mail. If the sender of the e-mail is known in one
of the databases, the e-mail is discarded. Otherwise,
the message continues to be processed.
In the second phase, the incoming e-mails are
examined for further traits, such as multiple
typical word occurrences and typical subject titles.
Points are allocated on the basis of intelligent
rules. The sum of these points decides whether the
e-mail is, or is not, spam. Only if the e-mail is
evaluated as "not spam" is it passed over to the
virus filter for further processing.
This combined filter method sorts out over 95% of
spam mail on the server level. |

|
Virus filter:
The pre-sorted e-mail messages are processed and
examined for viruses by the Innter.Net©
mailscanner. If a virus is found, the sender is
informed about the type of the virus and the
infection of the message itself.
The virus itself is removed from the affected
message and a notification of the identified and
removed virus is attached to the original message.
Only then is the cleaned and virus-free message
delivered to your corresponding mailbox.
The virus definitions are automatically updated
hourly and are thus always up-to-date. |

E-mail fraud - phishing
protection:
Phishing is a type of
confidence trick. The phisher sends his victim an
official-looking message, mostly e-mails, which
mislead the victim to divulge important information,
especially passwords, in good faith to the
perpetrator.
Phishing attack targets are access details, e.g. for
banks (online banking), mail order businesses,
Internet auction houses, web-based online
consultation or contact portals. The phisher can
cause a lot of damage, such as financial loss,
defamation e.g. by eBay auctions of stolen goods
under a false name, misuse of personal details,
effort and cost of clarification and amends.
In general, a phishing attack begins with a
personal, official-seeming e-mail or a mass delivery
of e-mails. The receiver is supposed to visit a
website, which requests him to enter his access
details on some false pretence. If the victim
complies with this request, his details will be in
the hands of the originator of the phishing attack.
What follows is meant to dispel any mistrust of the
victim. A short confirmation or a wrong error
message.
Another variation includes a form directly within a
HTML e-mail, which requests the victim to enter
confidential details and then sends these to the
originator. A phishing website is not used.
Methods of deception:
The e-mail is sent as HTML e-mail, with the
graphical possibilities of websites. Indeed it is
possible to see that the link target refers to
another website. However, even this can be faked
using script techniques. In other case, the links is
displayed as a graphic. Text appears on the user's
screen, but this is actually a graphic. The e-mail
address is also mostly faked for this.
Protection measures:
The spam and virus filter checks URLs in e-mail for
authenticity and marks links, whose real targets
don't match with the displayed link target, with a
warning, such as e.g. in the following example:

Filter basis
The checking for spam, virus and phishing traits
occurs on a domain basis, so that all e-mail
addresses under one (or more) domains are protected.
This way you can precisely define which domains
should be filtered with multiple activated domains
of your webserver. |
